How do I obtain an Injunction Against Domestic Violence?

Family Law

The Domestic Relations Clerk of Court Office in every county has Clerks assigned to assist you in completing the application for an Injunction Against Domestic Violence. If the Clerk’s office is not open, contact law enforcement, and they will direct you to a location to file for an Injunction. In the application, you should state all of the reasons that you are in fear of a person. You should list the last violent incident first. Be detailed and clear about all incidences of violence or the threat of violence. The clerk will then send your application to the Judge. The other side will not be notified that you have requested an Injunction. The Judge will read your application. If the Judge believes that you have been subject to violence or the threat of violence, the Judge will sign the Injunction. The Injunction will often be signed the same day you request the Injunction. The other party will then be served with a copy of the Injunction.
